Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Eric Bertrand
After a Junior career spent entirely with Granby of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League left-winger Eric Bertrand joined the farm team of the New Jersey Devils, the club who had drafted him in 1994. His first professional season, 1995-96, was spent with the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League. Bertrand spent four season with the 'Rats, the best of which came in 1998-99 when he scored 34 goals and 65 points. Bertrand made the leap to the NHL the next fall when he made the Devils roster out of training camp and played four games with them. He was unable to contribute a point for New Jersey and found himself on the move on November 1.

The Devils traded Bertrand to the Atlanta Thrashers in a four player trade that also saw the Devils receive a draft pick. Bertrand added eight more NHL games to his resume while with Thrashers but he was packing his bags again a little over a month after arriving in Atlanta.

The Thrashers sent Bertrand to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Brian Wesenberg and he was sent to their minor league team, where he remained until he was traded yet again on February 14 2000.

This time he was off to Nashville in exchange for future considerations and he finished his whirl-wind campaign toiling for their farm club in Milwaukee. At season's end Bertrand was a free agent and signed on with his home-province club, the Montreal Canadiens.

Though Bertrand was unable to crack the Canadiens roster out of training camp a vicious injury bug soon decimated the Montreal roster and Bertrand was called up. In three games with le bleu, blanc et rouge Bertrand was unable to register a point.

With his NHL hopes floundering, Bertrand elected to continue his career overseas and split the 2001-02 season between the Cologne Sharks of the German league and the Bracknell Bees of the British Super League.
