Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Joel Bouchard
The Montreal, Quebec native first made a name for himself in the QAAA with the Montreal Bourassa club in 1989-90. This was followed by four excellent years in the QMJHL with Longueuil and Verdun. Bouchard was selected 129th overall by the Calgary Flames at the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. His best year in junior was 1993-94 when he scored 70 points and was named to the league's First All-Star Team.

The young rearguard spent the majority of his first two pro seasons with the Saint John Flames of the AHL. Bouchard showed promise on the Calgary blueline in 1996-97 and the early stages of the next season, however, the Flames opted to leave Bouchard unprotected at the 1998 Expansion Draft and he was picked up by the Nashville Predators.

Bouchard enjoyed a solid year with the Predators in 1998-99 but was unable to keep his place in the line up the next year. He was claimed on waivers by the Dallas Stars midway through the 1999-00 season but ice time was limited on one of the league's deepest rosters. After signing as a free agent with the Phoenix Coyotes in August 2000, Bouchard played 32 games for the club while spending the other half of the season with the IHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.

In 2001-02 Bouchard signed with the New Jersey Devils and spent the majority of the year with the team's AHL affiliate in Albany while suiting up for one game with the parent club. After New Jersey, Bouchard was off to New York and the Rangers organization in 2002-03, splitting his season with the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack and the Big Apple before he was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins midway through the season.

In the summer of 2003, the former QMJHL product was acquired by the Buffalo Sabres, however was re-acquired by the Rangers prior to the regular season. During the lock out season of 2004-05, Bouchard toiled with the AHL's Hartford WolfPack before joining the New York Islanders in the summer of 2005.

On the international stage, Bouchard represented his homeland at the 1994 World Junior Championships and the 1997 World Championships.
