Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Robert Burakovsky
Robert Burakovsky was selected in the eleventh round, 217th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. Growing up in Malmo, Sweden, Burakovsky drew the attention of the Swedish Elite League at a young age, noted for his offensive scoring abilities. He joined AIK Solna of the SEL in 1989-90, and scored 27 goals and 56 points in just 37 games. After another year with Solna he played 32 games in his hometown with Malmo.

In 1993-94, Burakovsky played his entire 23-game NHL career with the Ottawa Senators, who had obtained his NHL playing rights. During that stay with the Senators he scored two goals and five points. Due to noticeable defensive inefficiencies, and his low offensive output, the Senators released him. It was also Burakovsky's contention that he could not get accustomed to the NHL's smaller ice surface, which takes many European players time to adjust.

Burakovsky returned to Sweden in 1995, rejoining Malmo for two years. He also played two each in Germany, Finland and Switzerland before heading back to play in Sweden with Leksands in 2000-01. He continues to play professionally, now dressing for Dusseldorf of the German league.
