Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Rod Buskas
Defenceman Rod Buskas played eleven NHL seasons in the 1980s and '90s. He was a fairly anonymous figure who played a solid and aggressive game in his own zone.

Born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Buskas played in the AJHL with the Red Deer Rustlers before joining the WHL by playing a game with the Billings Bighorns in 1979. As he matured in junior, Buskas accumulated a fair number of points while providing a physical presence in his own zone. He was chosen 112th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1981 Entry Draft.

After apprenticing with the AHL's Erie Blades and Baltimore Skipjacks, Buskas joined Pittsburgh on a full-time basis in 1984-85. He was a solid contributor on the blueline as the club slowly improved over the rest of the decade. Buskas helped the team come within a game of reaching the semifinals in 1989. Prior to the next season he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks but rejoined the Pens in January 1990 as part of a multi-player transaction involving Dan Quinn and Barry Pederson.

In October 1990 the steady rearguard was picked up on waivers by the L.A. Kings. Buskas played the body in his zone and moved the puck up to the club's talented forwards. He joined the Chicago Black Hawks late in the 1991-92 season and helped the club reach the Stanley Cup finals. Buskas spent most of his last three years as a pro in the IHL then retired in 1995.
