Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dave Chyzowski
As a junior star with the Kamloops Blazers, Dave Chyzowski was selected second overall by the New York Islanders in the 1989 NHL Entry Draft behind only Sweden's Mats Sundin, who went to Quebec as the first pick. In his draft year, Chyzowski scored 56 goals and 139 points in 68 games for the Blazers.

In 1989-90, he dressed for 34 games with the Islanders as an 18-year-old, scoring eight goals and 14 points. He did appear in four games with his junior team in Kamloops, scoring five times. In 1990-91, Chyzowksi played in 55 games but turned in a rather disappointing 14-point effort, including just five goals. The Islanders felt he needed more development in the hopes of regaining his scoring touch so they assigned him the Capital District Islanders in 1992-93. However, his game did not improve. In 66 games, he scored just 15 goals and 36 points.

It was deemed he needed yet another year in the minors, so he suited up with Salt Lake of the IHL, where he was marginally better, scoring 40 points in 66 games. By now, the Islanders had all but given up on their highly-touted prospect. In 1994-95, he played 13 games in New York, but was held off the scoresheet. That marked the end of his days on Long Island, where local writer's were calling him one of the biggest disappointments in team history.

Chyzowksi attempted to revitalize his career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1996-97 but was again unable to produce even a single point during the eight-game experiment. After several years in the IHL, Chyzowski moved to Germany where he continues to play professional hockey with the Schwenningen Wild Wings.
