Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bruce Driver
Not many sixth-round draft picks get to play over 900 games in the NHL, but Bruce Driver beat the odds and suited up for 922 regular season games over a 15-year professional career.

It all began for Driver at the University of Wisconsin, where his playmaking abilities drew the attention of many NHL scouts. Although he was never a prolific point producer, he was an excellent setup man and worked well in both power-play and shorthanded situations. In his final year of collegiate hockey, Driver averaged better than a point per game. In 1984 and 1985, Driver was on the roster of the Canadian National Team and represented his country at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics.

His first taste of NHL action came during the 1983-84 season when he played in four games with the New Jersey Devils. The team from which the Devils evolved, the Colorado Rockies, had drafted Driver 108th overall in 1981.

Driver spent eleven seasons in a Devils uniform and won a Stanley Cup ring with them in 1995. At the age of 33, Driver signed with the New York Rangers in the fall of 1995 and played in Manhattan for three years. His last year with the Rangers, and his NHL career, came in 1997-98.
