Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Francois Groleau
Defenceman Francois Groleau played a few games for the Montreal Canadiens in the 90s. He was a fine playmaker and point man on the power play in junior and the minors. He also found success in the German League after things did not work out in the NHL.

Born in Longueuil, Quebec, Groleau was taken 41st overall by the Calgary Flames in 1991 while he was in the midst of a fine junior career. Overall he registered 257 points in four QMJHL seasons with the Shawinigan Cataractes and St-Jean Lynx. Since Calgary had a number of quality NHL defencemen, Groleau spent his first two pro seasons with the Saint John Flames of the AHL. He was acquired by the Quebec Nordiques in March, 1995 but only saw duty with the club's minor league affiliate.

After signing with the Habs as a free agent in July, 1995, saw a bit of NHL action but was a regular on the Fredericton Canadiens of the AHL. In 1998-99 he played for Germany's Augsburger EV before returning to the AHL the following season. Unable to attract the interest of any NHL clubs, Groleau returned to the Bundesliga in 2000-01 and provided offense and stability to the Adler Mannheim team.
