Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Matt Hervey
Defenceman Matt Hervey was a utility player on three different NHL clubs in the 80s and 90s. He was a rugged defender in his own zone and could contribute on offense though most of his pro career took place in the minors.

Born in Whittier, California, Hervey spent four years in the WHL with the Victoria Cougars, Lethbridge Broncos, and Seattle Thunderbirds. After recording 29 points for the AHL's Moncton Hawks in 1987-88, he was signed by the parent Winnipeg Jets. Hervey was a rugged enforcer for three years on the farm and played his first two NHL for the Jets in 1988-89.

Just before training camp in 1991-92, Hervey came to terms with the Boston Bruins. After starting the year with the AHL's Maine Mariners he played 16 games for the club late in the year then added some grit in five post-season matches. Prior to the 1992-93 season he was traded to the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning and played 17 games in a utility role. Hervey was sent down to the IHL before the end of the year and remained until his retirement at the end of the 1993-94 season.
