A solid positional defenceman who could move the puck forward efficiently, Roger Johansson played briefly with the Calgary Flames and Chicago Black Hawks in the early 1990s. He was also a successful player on the international stage for Sweden and in his country's domestic league.

Born in Ljungby, Sweden. Johansson began his career with the Troja club in the second division. While playing here he was selected 80th overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1985 Entry Draft. Johannson was a member of the Swedish team at the 1986 and 1987 World Junior Championships where the team finished fifth then won bronze. He joined the Farjestad team in the Elite Division in 1986-87 and joined Calgary on its Friendship Tour of the USSR during the 1989-90 pre-season,

Johansson played 35 games on the Flames blueline in 1989-90 and 38 games the next year before returning to Sweden to play one season for Leksands IF. In 1992-93 he enjoyed his best NHL season with the Flames by suiting up for 77 games and scoring 20 points. He spent the 1993-94 season back with Leksand and representing Sweden at the Lillehammer Olympics and World Championships.

Following the Owners' Lockout in 1994-95, Johansson was claimed on waivers by the Chicago Black Hawks where he played eleven games. In 1995-96 he returned to the Farjestad club where he has remained ever since. Johansson played for Sweden at the inaugural World Cup in 1996 as well as the World Championships in 1996 and 1997.
