A fine playmaker from the left-wing position, Ladislav Karabin sampled the NHL for nine games with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993-94. He was a fine player in the domestic league of Czechoslovakia and, later, in the Slovakian league. Karabin also toiled in the minor leagues and played internationally during his decade-long career.
Born in Spisska Nova Ves, Czechoslovakia, Karabin played with the Slovan Bratislava club in the Czech league from 1989 to 1993. In 1990 he helped the Czechoslovaks win the bronze medal at the World Junior Championships. Later that year he was chosen 173rd overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
During his nine-game stint in the NHL Karabin failed to impress and was sent to Cleveland of the AHL where he remained until the end of the next season. After splitting the 1995-96 season between the AHL's Rochester Americans and the Los Angeles Ice Dogs of the IHL, Karabin returned to Europe. He joined his old Slovan Bratislava club which now played in the Slovakian league and took part in the European Hockey League in 1997-98 before retiring.
