Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dan Kesa
A right-winger with a good scoring touch in junior and the minors, Den Kesa had not yet replicated this success in the NHL. As the 2001-02 season began he remained with the Tampa Bay Lightning organization hoping to get another chance to play with the rebuilding club.

Born Vancouver, Kesa played two years with the Prince Albert Raiders of WHL where he scored 76 goals while relishing physical contact. He was chosen 95th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in 1991 and began his pro career with the AHL's Hamilton Canucks in 1992-93. Kesa played 19 games for Vancouver in 1993-94 and scored 70 points in 53 games for Hamilton. He spent the entire Lockout-shortened season with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL where he registered 78 points in 70 games.

In April 1995 he was traded to the Dallas Stars and, apart from three games, was strictly on hand to add depth to the farm team. He was shipped to Hartford in November and remained in the minors until 1998. During this time he scored 40 goals for IHL's Detroit Vipers in 1997-98 and attracted the interest of the Pittsburgh Penguins who signed him as a free agent shortly before training camp. He played 67 games chiefly as a 4th liner then signed with Tampa Bay in September 1999. Kesa scored 14 points in 50 games for the Lightning then spent the 2000-01 schedule with the IHL's Manitoba Moose.
