Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Claude Lapointe
Born in Lachine, Quebec, Claude Lapointe starred in the Quebec Midget AAA Hockey League with Lac St-Louis before enjoying four exemplary years in the QMJHL. He played two years each with the Trois-Rivieres Draveurs and the Laval Titan and was claimed 234th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. He accumulated nearly 500 points in four years of junior then played most of his first two years of professional hockey with the AHL's Halifax Citadels.

The hard-working forward helped the Nordiques recover from their decline, culminating in a first place finish in the regular season standings in 1994-95. He remained with the franchise when it relocated to Colorado but was traded to the Calgary Flames early in the season. In August 1996, Lapointe found a home when he signed with the rebuilding New York Islanders. Upon his arrival in 1997-98, he became a versatile player and team leader who could play with skill or grit depending on the situation.

After parts of seven seasons with the Islanders, the Philadelphia Flyers acquired Lapointe in the latter stages of the 2002-03 season.
