Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Francois Leroux
One of the largest players in the NHL at 6'6", 247 lbs., defenceman Francois Leroux was an imposing force for four NHL clubs. He considered playing in North America in 2001-02 then opted to join the Berlin Capitals in Germany.

Born in Ste-Adele, Quebec, Leroux played junior with the QMJHL's St-Jean Lynx and Victoriaville Tigres. He was chosen 19th overall by the Edmonton Oilers at the 1988 Entry Draft but spent most of his first three pro seasons in the AHL.

Early in the 1993-94 season, the hulking blueliner was claimed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators. He split his time that year between the NHL and the PEI Senators of the AHL. Beginning in 1994-95, Leroux began to see more ice time as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. He provided a physical component on the club for two and a half years with the Pens before joining the Colorado Avalanche in 1997-98. After three years in the minors, Leroux signed with the Berlin Capitals of Germany in July 2001.
