Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Nevin Markwart
Left-winger Nevin Markwart was a tireless worker and emotional sparkplug who spent most of is 309 NHL games with the Boston Bruins in the 1980s. He was a diligent forechecker and defensive forward whose affection for the game spread through the whole team.

The Toronto native was chosen 21st overall by the Boston Bruins in 1983 after a fine career with the WHL's Regina Pats. He impressed as a rookie the next year with 30 points and a willingness to work hard on his defensive game. He split the 1984-85 season between the Bruins and the minors but regained his place on the roster the following year.

The 5'10" Markwart's diligent work in the corners and willingness to mix it up with larger foes helped the club replace Stan Jonathan. By the late '80s, the feisty forward was forced to deal with a series of injuries that hampered him for the next five years. He averaged close to 20 games per year for Boston in the regular season but did help the club for 12 post-season matches when they reached the semi-finals in 1991.

In February 1992, the Calgary Flames picked up Markwart on waivers. He played ten games for his new club and also worked briefly with the EHC Biel club in Switzerland and the AHL's Springfield Indians before retiring in 1992-93.
