Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Don McSween
Defenceman Don McSween was a role player for two clubs in the 1980s and '90s. A decent puck handler with good mobility, he enjoyed most of his success in college and the minor leagues.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, McSween played with the NAJHL's Renford Royals in 1982-83. Following that season, the Buffalo Sabres at the Entry Draft took him 160th overall before playing four years at Michigan State. McSween enjoyed a fine career with the Spartans where he was selected to the CCHA first all-star team three times and was a two- time selection to the NCAA Championship all-tournament squad. In 1986, he was an integral part of the school's NCAA title run.

McSween played a few games for Buffalo but was mostly a regular with the Rochester Americans of the AHL. After scoring 59 points in 70 games for the Amerks, he was placed on the league's first all-star team. After playing an important offensive role on the IHL's San Diego Gulls for two years, McSween was signed by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim halfway through their inaugural season January 1994. He scored 12 points in 32 games and represented the U.S. at the World Championships. Over the next two years, his career was slowed by a serious arm injury. He recovered to the point that he became a regular in the IHL before retiring in 1998.
