Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Rocky Thompson
Since making his NHL debut in 1997-98, defenceman Rocky Thompson has played briefly with the Calgary Flames and Florida Panthers. His strength was rugged play in his own zone and ability to clear the puck out of harm's way.

The Calgary native was a Tier II star with Spruce Grove before moving on to the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers. He was taken 72nd overall by the hometown Flames in 1995 then returned to junior. He spent most of the 1997-98 season with the AHL's Sain John Flames and played 12 games for Calgary as an injury replacement. He continued to toil almost exclusively in the minors before he was traded to the Florida Panthers for Filip Kuba in March 2000. Thompson spent most of the 2000-01 season with the AHL's Louisville Panthers but did play four NHL contests for Florida.

In the summer of 2003, Thompson was acquired by the Edmonton Oilers.
