Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Robert Nordmark
Defenceman Robert Nordmark was a slick playmaker who also played responsibly in his own zone. He played over 200 NHL games but was better known in Europe as a domestic star and a representative of Sweden.

The native of Lulea, Sweden played with the second division team in his hometown before joining Vastra Frolunda. He also skated for Brynas IF Gavle before resigning with Lulea when it joined the Eliteserein. Nordmark played for Sweden at the 1981 and 1982 World Junior Championships and the senior World tourney in 1986 in 1987. He was chosen 59th overall by the St. Louis Blues at the 1987 Entry Draft.

The talented blueliner adapted well to the NHL as a rookie in 1987-88. He scored 21 points and didn't shy away from playing a physical style. Prior to the 1988-89 season the Blues opted to go with youngsterTom Tilley and veterans like Gaston Gingras, Brian Benning and Gordie Roberts instead of Nordmark. He was traded to the Vancouver Canucks and recorded 35 assists for his new club in 1988-89 and followed up with three goals when they nearly upset the Calgary Flames in the first round of the playoffs. His role was reduced over the next two years and he eventually returned to Sweden with Vasteras in 1991-92.

Nordmark also played with Djurgardens of Stockholm and helped Sweden win the silver medal at the 1995 World Championships. Late in his career he moved around spending a year each in Finland with Lukko Rauma and with Zurich SC of Switzerland. He retired in 1998 after playing 11 games with Djurgardens.
