Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Vladimir Orszagh
Right-winger Vladimir Orzagh was a prospect in the New York Islanders' system in the late 1990s. The stocky forward had good speed and battled hard in the corners but was unable to attain regular ice time in the NHL.

Born in Banska Bystrica, Czechoslovakia, Orzagh played two years with his local club and helped them gain promotion from the second to first division. On the international front, he led Slovakia to the "B Pool" World Junior title in 1995 and represented them in the "A Pool" the next year.

Orszagh was chosen 106th overall by the New York Islanders in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He spent his first year in North America with the IHL's Utah Grizzlies in 1996-97 then played 11 NHL games the next season. He remained too raw for the NHL and ended up spending more time in Utah as well as Lowell in the AHL. After returning overseas in 2000-01, Orszagh went on to play one season in the Swedish Elite League and went on to make his World Championship debut with Slovakia at the 2001 tournament. After a strong season in Sweden, Orszagh was acquired by the Nashville Predators prior to the 2001-02 season. Upon his arrival in Nashville, the former Islanders prospect became one of the more consistent players on the roster and went on to play three seasons the club before being claimed by the St. Louis Blues during the 2005-06 season.

Aside from his World Junior experience, Orszagh has gone to represent Slovakia at five World Championships (2001-2005), as well as the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.
