Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Allen Pedersen
Allen Pedersen was, throughout his minor and pro career, the ultimate stay-at-home defenseman. He was so at home, in fact, that he rarely put a biscuit in any basket.

He performed for three seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL where, in his final campaign in 1984-85, he potted a career-high six goals and 22 points.

A year prior to his scoring outburst, Pedersen been selected 105th overall by the Boston Bruins. The team understood clearly that they were acquiring a conservative, crease-clearing blueliner who would show up for defensive role call on a nightly basis.

Once he joined the Bruins in1986, that's precisely what he did. He tended to his own zone until his 14th NHL game, at which time he scored on goaltender Clint Malarchuk of the Nordiques. It was his first NHL goal and his last for the 273 regular season and playoff matches that followed. The drought became the longest on record in the NHL. It finally ended after three years of thirsting when he beat Glen Hanlon with a soft floater in 1990.

All told, Pedersen lasted for parts of five seasons with the Bruins. In 1991, he was picked up by the North Stars who quickly flipped him to the Hartford Whalers where he rounded out his NHL days in 1993. After 48 games with the Springfield Indians of the AHL, Pedersen finished his pro career with the Atlanta Knights of the IHL in 1995.
