Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Darren Rumble
As a junior defenseman with the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL, Darren Rumble looked like a blue-chip blueline prospect for NHL duty. In 1987, the Philadelphia Flyers made him their number-one choice in the NHL Entry Draft.

His first season of pro was spent with the Hershey Bears of the AHL. And spent virtually all of his three years in the Flyers' chain. He did get a 3-game tryout in Philly along the way but never managed to crack their lineup.

It wasn't until the Ottawa Senators claimed him in the Expansion Draft of 1992 that he finally got a shot at regular NHL action. Mind you, he may have preferred the AHL as the fledgling Sens struggled at the bottom of the league standings.

After his time with the Senators, Rumble became a wandering minor-league rearguard that managed to pick up the odd NHL gig from time to time. From 1995 to 1997, he put in a handful of games with the Flyers while earning the Eddie Shore Award as the AHL's Top Defenceman in 1996-97 as a member of the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Rumble spent some more time in the minors before landing in St. Louis in 2000-01 before joining the Tampa Bay Lightning organization in 2002-03. Upon his arrival with the Lightning, Rumble went on to split his duties with the Bolts and their AHL affiliate in Hershey, while capturing his first Stanley Cup title in 2004.
