Stanislav Gron was born October 28, 1978 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The second round, 38th overall selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Gron who honed his skills in Europe came to North America in 1997 and joined the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds.
The young Slovak played two seasons in the WHL, with stops in Seattle and Kootenay before making his professional debut with the IHL's Utah Grizzlies upon the completion of Kootenay's 1998-99 season. After only playing a handful of games with Utah, Gron was assigned to New Jersey's AHL affiliate in Albany for the 1999-00 season and for the better part of the 2000-01 season while seeing action in one game with the parent club.
Contemplating his status within the organization, Gron opted to return overseas and signed with Vitkovice HC in the Czech Republic League in 2002-03.
