Defenceman Scott Sandelin played briefly with the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota North Stars in the 80s and 90s. He was a solid positional player who could also move the puck forward efficiently.
Born in Hibbing, Minnesota, Sandelin was chosen 40th overall by the Habs after starring with his local high school. He then spent four years at the University of North Dakota and was placed on the WCHA first all-star team in 1986. During this time he also represented the US at the World Junior Championships in 1984 and the World Championships two years later.
During the early stages of his pro career Sandelin played a few games for Montreal was chiefly used by the AHL's Sherbrooke Canadiens. Early in the 1988-89 season he was traded to the Flyers for veteran blueliner J.J. Daigneault. He played a few games for his new team but was acquired to add depth to the Hershey Bears of the AHL. In August 1991, he joined the North Stars as a free agent and but played all but one game in the IHL before retiring at the end of the season.
