Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Geoff Smith
As an Edmonton born hockey player, Geoff Smith was happy to be the Oilers second pick in the 1987 Entry Draft and joined the team in 1989. After attending the University of North Dakota, Smith represented his country in the World Junior Championships in 1989, and playing for the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL, was named to the league's second all-star team in the West.

Smith joined the Oilers in the 1989-90 season just in time to enjoy the taste of a Stanley Cup championship. He was also named to the NHL all-rookie team. He spent four seasons in Edmonton before being traded to the Panthers in 1993 where he played the next four years. Smith's next stop was in New York, with the Rangers, from 1997 to 1999, after which he left the NHL.
