Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Tom Tilley
Tom Tilley was a steady defensive blueliner in parts of four seasons in the 1980s and '90s. In the NHL he focused on taking the body and clearing the puck out of his own zone, but he was a decent puck handler who was allowed to improvise in college and the minors.

Born in Trenton, Ontario, Tilley played Junior B with Orillia Trailways before spending four seasons with Michigan State. He was chosen 196th overall by the St. Louis Blues at the 1984 Entry Draft. After scoring 26 points for the Spartans in 1987-88, Tilley was placed on the CCHA first all-star team.

Tilley was a solid regular on the Blues in 1988-89 and went on to be an IHL second team all-star after helping the Peoria Rivermen capture the Turner Cup in 1991. During the early '90s, Tilley suited up for the Canadian national team and signed with the Milano Devils in Italy. He returned to North America in 1993-94 and played 48 games for St. Louis. He also represented Canada at the 1995 World Championships and made the IHL second all-star team after scoring 79 points for the Milwaukee Admirals in 1996. The steady defender retired in 2000 after playing three years for the IHL's Chicago Wolves.
