Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Patrick Traverse
After playing his Junior hockey in the QMJHL, defenceman Patrick Traverse was a third round draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in 1992. Traverse turned pro with their farm club in Prince-Edward-Island at the tail end of the 1993-94 season, shortly after completing his final Junior campaign in St-Jean. Traverse spent all of the next year apprenticing in P.E.I and the vast majority of the following year doing the same, but he did get a brief call up from the parent club.

Traverse suited up for five games with Ottawa during the 1995-96 season but was unable to register a point. Two more years would pass before he would work his way back up to the big leagues, but this time it was for a much longer stay. Traverse returned in 1998 and played 46 games with Ottawa and then the following year played 66 games and also flashed an offensive side when he scored 6 goals and 23 points and was a member of Canada's World Championship team. Despite posting the best plus/minus rating among Senators defenceman, Traverse was dealt to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim during the off-season.

His time with the Ducks was short lived, as it turned out. Just a month into the season the Ducks traded the big defenceman along with tough guy Andrei Nazarov to the Boston Bruins. Traverse's suitcase packing was not over, though. Toward the end of the season Traverse was traded again, this time to his hometown Montreal Canadiens for veteran Eric Weinrich.

With the Canadiens Traverse joined a young blue line crew and worked to find his niche in Montreal's rebuilding lineup. Over the course of the next three seasons, Traverse spent most of his time with the team's AHL affiliate in Quebec City and Hamilton, while seeing most of his action with the parent club during the 2002-03 season.

In the Summer of 2004 Traverse was acquired by the Dallas Stars, however the majority of his season would be spent with the Stars' AHL affiliate in Iowa.

On July 10, 2006 Traverse was signed by the San Jose Sharks who would place him on waivers only a month later. The Montreal Canadiens claimed Traverse off waivers and sent him back to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Mathieu Biron.
