Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Igor Ulanov
The hard hitting crashing defenceman broke in with the Winnipeg Jets in the 1991-92 season. Igor Ulanov had been drafted 203rd in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft and wound up playing 27 games with the Jets in his first season with the organization. Ulanov remained a Jet for four seasons before being moved to the Washington Capitals.

Six months later Ulanov was on the move again. This time Washington had moved him to the Chicago Blackhawks. Before the season finished he found himself in Tampa Bay, who were on the verge of clinching their first playoff berth in franchise history.

Ulanov remained with Tampa Bay for two more seasons before making stops in Montreal and Edmonton. The tough, steady and mean defenceman rediscovered his love for the game in Edmonton and posted the best numbers of his career. In plus/minus, blocked shots and hits he ranked among the top ten in all three categories.

The hulking defenceman joined the New York Rangers organization in 2001-02 before being acquired by the Florida Panthers in the summer of 2002. After parts of two seasons in the Florida organization, Ulanov signed as a free-agent with the Edmonton Oilers in the early stages of the 2003-04 season.

On the international stage Ulanov has represented his homeland at the 1994 World Championships and at the 1996 World Cup.
