Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- David Williams
Defenseman David Williams played 173 games in four seasons for the San Jose Sharks and Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the early 90s. He was a decent positional player who could also contribute occasionally on offense.

Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Williams was chosen 234th overall by the New Jersey Devils in 1985 while he was in the midst of a successful high school career with Choate Academy. He then spent four years at Dartmouth College and was named to the ECAC First All-Star team in 1989.

During his first pro season the young rearguard played in the IHL and ECHL and represented the United States at the 1991 World Championships. A few weeks later he signed as a free agent with the expansion Sharks and was one of the steadiest players on the team in 1992-93. He split the 1992-93 season between the NHL and the minors as San Jose tried out a host of different players during the club's difficult second season.

In June 1993, Williams was picked by Anaheim in the Expansion Draft. He scored 20 points in 1993-94 and was a +8 while helping the Ducks register a respectable 71 points in their inaugural season. He played 21 games for the Ducks in the Lockout-shortened 1995 season then returned to the minors for the remainder of his career.
