Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Craig Wolanin
Craig Wolanin was chosen in the first round, 3rd overall, by the New Jersey Devils in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft from the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL. In his rookie season with the Devils, Wolanin suited up for 44 games, scoring two goals and 16 assists with 74 minutes in penalties.

In 1986-87, Wolanin essentially played a full NHL season, appearing in 68 games, scoring four goals and six assists. He spent another two seasons in New Jersey before being sent to the Quebec Nordiques during the 1989-90 season. In four seasons with the Nordiques, Wolanin became known for his defensive prowess, and given his large size, he was effective at clearing opposing players from the front of the net.

Wolanin was a member of the Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche in 1996. He played in 75 regular season games and seven playoff matches en route to the championship.

After a short 15-game stint with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Wolanin joined the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1996-97 season, where he stayed for nearly a year. His professional hockey career lasted another 16 games into the 1998-99 season with the Detroit Vipers of the IHL.

In 695 NHL games, Wolanin scored 40 goals, 133 assists for 173 points and 894 penalty minutes.
