Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Douglas Adam
Although he played just four NHL games, with the Rangers, Adam became the first player in the Western Hockey League to score 200 goals for a career and held numerous league records.

He was called up by the Rangers during the 1949-50 season, playing February 5, 9, 11, and 12 before returning to the Tacoma Rockets of the PCHL. Upon retiring in 1957, he returned to Tacoma where he had been living since playing there from 1949-53 to sell automobiles, though he expressed interest in coaching Philadelphia of the EHL.

Both moves retiring and coaching were ploys designed to get more money from his playing team in Charlotte, where he had just set a league record with 65 goals. In November '57, he came to terms with the team, and he resumed his playing career. For the 1958-59 season, he got his wish and was named the Philadelphia Ramblers playing/coach.

Adam coached for three seasons, and after a year's absence he returned as the team's GM for 1963-64. Bud Poile hired him as a part-time scout for the expansion Flyers in the NHL, and three days after Adam quit his full-time civilian job to become a full-time scout, Poile was fired and Adam was forced to resign out of support.
