Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Lloyd Ailsby
Although he played just three games with the New York Rangers in 1951-52--December 19, 23, and 25, Ailsby was one of the greatest defencemen the Eastern Hockey League had ever seen.

Ailsby began his career playing junior with Moose Jaw, going to the Memorial Cup in 1935 where the Canucks lost to the Winnipeg Monarchs. From there he signed with the Rovers and then journeyed around the country with various teams until joining the army in 1942 for one year.

He later became a star in the fledgling United States Hockey League where he was named to either the first or second all-star team in five out of six years from 1946-51. He could provide offense from the blueline, but when the Rangers called him up his scoring deserted him and he was back in the minors.

Although he played many years for the New York Rovers, he also had success with the Johnstown Jets, and coached both teams as well during the 1950s. He also played during this time, and became full-time coach of the Rovers for the 1960-61 season.
