Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dave Amadio
Amadio was a tough, hard-hitting defenceman who played two games with Detroit in 1957-58 as an 18-year-old and then found himself buried in the minors for a decade. He played most of that time with Springfield, and although known more for his physical play than for any offensive ability at all he once scored five goals in a game in 1964, an AHL record for defencemen.

When the L.A. Kings joined the NHL, they acquired the Springfield Indians franchise from Eddie Shore and coach Red Kelly, who knew Amadio from his playing days with the Wings, summoned him up to the NHL. Amadio played the first two seasons of the Kings NHL years, but such was his lack of confidence that he kept his wife in Springfield and rented an apartment in Los Angeles with three teammates Eddie Joyal, Brian Smith, and Bryan Campbell.

Sure enough, Amadio spent 1969-74 back in the minors, mostly in the Western league, and for 1975-76 he became coach of the Calgary Centennials of the Western league.
