Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike Amodeo
He was a rising star by the time he left the Toronto Marlies to begin a pro career, but Mike Amadeo rejected an offer from the California Seals in the summer of 1972. The team that had drafted him 102nd overall that summer, preferring to stay in Canada and play in the WHA.

He signed with the Ottawa Nationals and then was transferred to the Toronto Toros two years later. Teamed with Carl Brewer, he developed into one of the better defencemen in that league, but during the 1975-76 season he had a falling out with management and his WHA career waned.

In February 1976 Amodeo sued the Toros after the team first demoted him and then bought out his contract. He traveled to Sweden where he played most of the next two years, though he returned to play a few games each season with the Winnipeg Jets in the WHA. In 1978-79, the pattern reversed; he played one game in Sweden and the rest of the year with the Jets. In 79-80 he returned to Canada permanently to play his only NHL games, with the Jets, not scoring a point and being a disappointing -15 in 19 games.

Two years later, he was out of the game for good, though he used his dual citizenship eligibility (his parents were Italian) to play for Italy at the 1982 World Championships (a seventh place finish in A pool) after playing again in Sweden and later in the Italian league.
