Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Peter Andersson
Playing in Sweden, Andersson was a low draft choice (173rd overall by Washington in 1980) whose best moments came during international play.

He played in the World Juniors twice (gold in 1981, fifth place in 1982), the World Championships six times (including a gold in 1987 and 1991, and silver in 1990), three Canada Cups and two Olympics (bronze in 1988).

Washington had trouble convincing him to leave Sweden for the NHL, but Andersson's English was excellent and the Caps already had a Swede on the team Bengt Gustafsson, with whom he could talk. And, after such a distinguished career in his country's colours, he wanted the challenge of playing in the world's most demanding league, so in 1983 he came to Washington to try his luck.

As it was, his time in the NHL was short. He played most of three seasons with Washington and then was traded to Quebec for a 3rd-round draft choice, but at the end of the season, 1985-86, he returned to his homeland to continue a prosperous career there, retiring in 1995.
