Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Red Beattie
The little winger played on lines with some of the all-time greats with Boston in the 1930s Cooney Weiland, Dit Clapper, and Nels Stewart. The NHL handed the Bruins Beattie's rights in 1930 to settle a contract dispute with the New York Rangers, the team that orginally bought his rights and sent him to the Springfield Indians. He was a swift skater and decent scorer with the Bruins, though the team had little success in the playoffs during his almost eight years with the team.

Beattie broke his leg and missed all but one game of the 1931-32 season. One of the few natives of England to play in the NHL, Red returned stronger than ever and didn't miss a game for the big bad Bruins for the next five seasons. Unfortunately, he played almost every year between the two Boston Cups in 1929 and 39. He was traded to Detroit for Gord Pettinger on December 19, 1937 but just five weeks later was in turn shipped to the New York Americans for Joe Lamb. After one more partial season with the Amerks, he retired from the game.
