Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Gregg Boddy
Defenseman Gregg Boddy played three seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the late 1960s and was one of the team's leaders both on the ice and in the dressing room. Boddy was never to be confused with an offensive defenseman, scoring just five goals in 173 games. However, his defensive prowess earned him the respect of others in major junior hockey and was certainly noticed by many NHL scouts.

The Los Angeles Kings selected Boddy in the third round, 27th overall in the 1969 NHL Amateur Draft. After spending his first pro season in the minors Boddy was traded to the Montreal Canadiens but again was relegated solely to minor-league duty. He was traded for the second time in as many years when the Vancouver Canucks acquired him in 1971. He played 40 games with the Canucks that season and impressed the team brass sufficiently enough to earn a full-time roster spot in 1972-73. He remained in Vancouver for another three years.

In 1976 Boddy opted to try his hand in the rival WHA, joining the San Diego Mariners before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers midway through the season. He finished his pro career in 1979 playing one year in Japan.
