Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Per-Olov Brasar
A skillful left-winger who excelled on both specialty teams, Per-Olav Brasar spent five years in the NHL during the 1970s and '80s. He was an exceptional playmaker with astute hockey sense whose ability was well known in his native Sweden.

Brasar played several years for Leksands IF where he contributed to league championships in 1973 and 1975. He also spent the 1973-74 season with the national team, participated in the 1976 Canada Cup and played in four World Championships where he won one silver and three bronze medals.

The talented forward was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota North Stars prior to the 1977-78 season. He scored 20 goals as a rookie and formed an exciting line with Roland Eriksson and Kent-Erik Andersson. When the club missed the playoffs, Brasar joined them in time for the World Championships. In 1978-79, the Stars were upgraded by the merge with the Cleveland Barons and the drafting of Bobby Smith and Steve Payne. Brasar played a more defensive role on the club and was traded to the Vancouver Canucks the next season.

In 1980-81, Brasar set a career high with 63 points and eight power play goals. He often teamed with Tiger Williams and B.J. MacDonald to bring the Pacific Coliseum fans out of their seats. The next year his ice time was reduced but he was on hand when Vancouver reached the Stanley Cup final. Brasar returned to Sweden to play one more season with Leksands before retiring in 1983.
