Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bernie Brophy
As a 21-yer-old, Bernie Brophy suited up with the Fort Pitt Panthers of the old USAHA in 1924-25. In 17 games he scored four times. The following year he signed a deal with the NHL's Montreal Maroons and appeared in ten games, but was held pointless.

In 1926-27, Brophy played with three teams; the Providence Reds of the Can-Am league, and the Detroit Greyhounds and Duluth Hornets of the AHA. The following season he focused his attention on Providence, playing 33 games, scoring nine times while counting eleven points.

Brophy was traded to the NHL's Detroit Cougars by the Montreal Maroons for cash on October 23, 1928. In 37 games he scored twice and had six points. He also dressed for ten games with the Detroit Olympics of the Can-Pro league. IN 1929-30, Brophy returned for the final 15 games of his NHL career, scoring two goals for the Cougars. He continued to play in the IHL with the Olympics, the Cleveland Indians and the London Tecumsehs, where he captured the 1933-34 IHL Championship before he went to the Windsor Bulldogs. Following his IHL career, he played three years with the Collingwood Ship Builders of the OIHA. In the 1938-39 season, Brophy acted as both player and head coach of the Ship Builders, forming a team out of previously retired players, resulting in a 1939 OIHA championship season.

In 62 NHL games, Brophy scored four goals and eight points.
