Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Murray Brumwell
Defenceman Murray Brumwell was a solid role player for parts of seven NHL seasons in the 1980s. He was an above-average puck handler who could play the point on the power play reasonably well.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, Brumwell was a star on the AJHL's Calgary Canucks. He then moved on to the WHL where he was a key offensive blueliner on the Billings Bighorns. After scoring 72 points in 1979-80, he was signed as a free agent by the Minnesota North Stars. He played 22 games for the Stars over two seasons but was chiefly a regular on their CHL farm club.

Prior to the 1982-83 season, Brumwell was picked up on waivers by the New Jersey Devils as they prepared for their first season since leaving Colorado. The young defender played 101 games over two years with the club and helped out on the power play by scoring five times with the extra man in 1983-84. He was used sparingly by the Devils over the next three seasons but was one of the steadier performers in the AHL. In 1987-88, he scored 66 points for the Utica Devils and was placed on the league's second all-star team. He retired in 1991 after playing two years with the AHL's New Haven Nighthawks.
