Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jerry Byers
Left-winger Jerry Byers was a role player on three different teams in the 1970s. He was a productive scorer in junior and the minors but only dressed for a handful of games in the big leagues.

The native of Kentville, Nova Scotia split the 1969-70 season between the jr. B Kitchener Greenshirts and the OHA's Rangers. After recording consecutive 41-goal seasons for the Rangers he was chosen 12th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the 1972 Amateur Draft. He spent most of his two years in the Stars' organization as an AHL farmhand before he was traded to the Atlanta Flames after the 1973-74 season. After scoring 31 goals for the New Haven Nighthawks that year he was placed on the AHL second all-star team.

Apart from a seven-game stint with the New York Rangers in 1977-78, Byers was a consistent scorer in the CHL and AHL during his last five years in North America. His best year was 1978-79 when he scored 33 goals for the AHL's Nova Scotia Voyageurs and was voted on to the league's second all-star team. Byers retired in 1981 after spending year playing with the Salzburg club of Austria
