Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Scott Campbell
Campbell was a first-round draft choice as a teenager. He was out of the game at 25. And in between he played just a handful of games, never realizing the potential so many scouts and coaches had believed he possessed.

Despite being chosen 9th overall by St. Louis in 1977, Campbell opted for a life in the WHA, first with Houston, then with Winnipeg. When the Jets joined the NHL, they could protect only two players. They chose Campbell and Morris Lukowich. But the extreme cold in Winnipeg exacerbated a bad asthma problem, and after a year and a half he asked to be traded. He got his wish, and arrived in St. Louis after all the years since being drafted, but the medication he had been taking for his asthma led to vascular migraine headaches that were so pronounced that he had to sit out most of the 1981-82 season.

By the next training camp, he continued to experience painful headaches and retired. Campbell then went into harness racing as an owner, and with a partner bought (General D Brook,) a trotter who had excellent success.
