Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Jack Church
Jack Church had a five-year NHL career beginning in 1938-39 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Prior to making it to the NHL, Church had played three seasons with the IAHL's Syracuse Stars where he was the steadying influence on their defense corps. During his final year in Syracuse in 1938-39, Church scored three goals and 15 points before heading for Toronto where he had two assists in his first three games with the team.

In 1939-40, Church suited up for 31 games with the Leafs, contributing a goal and five points. The Leafs faced off against the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals, losing the best-of-seven series, 4-2. Midway through the 1941-42 campaign, he was sent to the Brooklyn Americans where he played the final 15 games of the season. That was the last time Church would play professional hockey for the next three years due to commitments in World War II.

Upon returning to professional hockey in 1945-46, Church signed with the Boston Bruins. In 43 games, he scored two goals and eight points while helping the Bruins advance to the Stanley Cup finals where they lost the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Church continued to play pro hockey for another two years, retiring at the conclusion of the 1947-48 season with the AHL's Providence Reds.
