Born on December 15th, 1928 in the town of Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan defenseman Hugh Coflin played 31 games with the Chicago Black Hawks during the 1950-51 campaign. Coflin managed three assists with Chicago while amassing 31 penalty minutes. Following the season the Black Hawks traded Coflin to the Detroit Red Wings but he never returned to the NHL level.

After spending the 1951-52 season with the American Hockey League's Indianapolis Capitals, Coflin joined the Edmonton Flyers in 1952. He would spend eight years with the Flyers, the best of which came in 1957-58 when he scored 12 goals and 44 points.

Hugh Coflin retired in 1960.

Claimed by Hershey (AHL) from Detroit (Edmonton-WHL) in Inter-League Draft, June 1, 1955. Traded to Detroit (Edmonton-WHL) by Hershey (AHL) for Jimmy Uniac and Larry Zeidel, August 14, 1955.
