After a season with the University of Montreal left-winger Jean Cusson, born in Verdun, Quebec on October 5th, 1942 joined the Canadian National team where he spent three seasons and participated in the World Championships in 1967. During the 1967-68 Cusson spent time with the National Team but also spent some time with the Ottawa Nationals, a Senior team. That March Cusson was presented an opportunity to strut his stuff at the National Hockey League level with the Oakland Seals signed him to a three game amateur tryout contract.
Cusson played only two games with Oakland and was limited to just 1 shot and no points in that time. Cusson retired from hockey after his short time in the NHL
