Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Barry Dean
Left-winger Barry Dean spent four years with the Medicine Hat Tigers and was then made the 2nd overall selection in the 1975 Amateur Draft by the Kansas City Scouts. Dean, who was also drafted into the World Hockey Association and that was where he elected to begin his pro career.

Dean spent the 1975-76 season with the Phoenix Roadrunners of the WHA and then made the leap to the NHL the following year. By 1976 the Kansas City Scouts had relocated to Colorado and became the Rockies and that's where Dean began his NHL career.

Dean played 79 games for the Rockies and scored 14 goals and 39 points in his rookie season; all career highs. That summer the Rockies sent Dean to the Philadelphia Flyers for Mark Suzor.

With the Flyers Dean did not see as much ice as he had in Colorado, playing 86 games for Philadelphia over the next two seasons and chipping in 42 points. However in 1979-80 the emergence of rookie Brian Propp in Philadelphia made the Flyer roster even more difficult to crack and Dean spent the entire year in the American Hockey League.

A trade in the summer of 1980 saw Dean sent to the Edmonton Oilers, but he still could not play his way back onto an NHL roster. Following the 1981-82 season, his third straight spent entirely in the minors, Dean retired from hockey.
