Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dean Defazio
Left-winger Dean Defazio played a quarter of the 1983-84 season with the struggling Pittsburgh Penguins. He spent the majority of his pro career in the minors where he was a gritty competitor in the corners while generating offense with his relentless forechecking.

The Ottawa native played junior B with the local Senators before splitting his OHL career between the Brantford Alexanders, Sudbury Wolves and Oshawa Generals. He was chosen 175th overall by the Pens in 1981 after showing promise as a rookie in Brantford. Defazio returned to junior and notched consecutive 20-goal seasons before joining the dreadful Pens in 1983. In addition to his 22-game trial, the spunky winger was an AHL regular for parts of four years the played 30 games for the IHL's Flint Spirits before retiring in 1988.
