Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Yip Foster
Defenceman Harry "Yip" Foster was a solid player in his own end where he made good use of his 6'6" frame. Between 1929-30 and 1934-35, he played 83 games with three different NHL clubs. Foster was also a stalwart in the Can-Am League, the AHL, and the AHA.

A native of Guelph, Ontario, Foster played junior with the Toronto Canoe Club and Aura Lee teams before joining the senior City Hall squad. Foster turned pro in 1927-28 with the Springfield Indians of the Can-Am League where he stayed for two seasons. He played 31 games for the Rangers in 1929-30 before returning to the Can-Am with the Boston Tigers.

Foster joined the Boston Bruins for 34 games in 1931-32 and then played a handful of contests for the Detroit Red Wings in the mid-1930s. He was a key stabilizing influence in the AHL for the Detroit Olympics and Cleveland Barons and also toiled for the Minneapolis Millers of the AHA. He retired in 1944 after playing two years with the AHL's Cleveland Barons.
