Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ron Friest
Left-winger Ron Friest played 64 games for the Minnesota North Stars in the early 80s. He was at his best when playing a physical role or causing traffic in front of the opposition's goal.

The native of Windsor, Ontario played junior in the OHA with the Niagara Falls Flyers and the Windsor Spitfires. He turned pro in 1978-79 with the Flint Generals of the IHL and scored 21 goals in 54 games. The next season he saw most of his ice time in the EHL with the Baltimore Clippers and scored 35 goals.

On June 26, 1980, he signed his first NHL contract with the Minnesota North Stars. He scored a goal in four games in 1980-81 but spent the bulk of the schedule with the CHL's Oklahoma City Stars. Friest played ten games the next season and was a 32-goal scorer for the Nashville South Stars of the CHL. He played 50 games in 1982-83 as a hard-nosed grinder but most of the prime ice time went to left-wingers Steve Payne, Tom McCarthy, and Al MacAdam on the talented Stars. Friest retired in 1983 after five years in the pros.
