Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Germain Gagnon
Prior to turning professional, Germaine Gagnon played two years of major junior hockey in the OHA with the Montreal Junior Canadiens in 1961-62 and 1962-63, putting 57 points on the board both years.

It took Gagnon ten tough years of toiling in the minors, travelling on many bus trips to various cities throughout North America, always hoping he'd one day make it to the NHL. It finally happened in 1971-72 when he was called up to play four games with the Montreal Canadiens. With expansion the following season, Gagnon was traded to the first-year New York Islanders by Montreal to complete a trade that sent goalie Dennis DeJordy, Tony Featherstone, Murray Anderson, Glenn Resch and Alec Campbell. He suited up for 62 games for the Islanders in their inaugural season scoring eight goals and 22 points.

In the offseason he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he played for three years. His best offensive season came in 1974-75 when he had 16 goals and 51 points in 80 games. In October 1975, he was claimed off the waiver wire by the Kansas City Chiefs where he played for 31 games. He retired after the 1975-76 season at the age of 33 having played in 259 games, scoring 40 goals and 141 points.
