Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Bob Gladney
Defenceman Bob Gladney played a few games with the LA Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 80s. A fine puckhandler with a hard shot from the point, he enjoyed much success in junior and the minors.

Born in Come-by-Chance, Newfoundland, Gladney was chosen 24th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1977 after scoring 58 goals in three years with the OHA's Oshawa Generals. As a rookie pro in 1977-78 he impressed with 65 points in 69 games for the IHL's Saginaw Gears but was never recalled to Toronto.

After scoring 83 points for Saginaw in 1980-81, Gladney was placed on the IHL second all-star team. In August, 1981 he was traded to the Kings with a draft choice that ended up being Kevin Stevens for checking centre Don Luce. He played one game in Tinseltown but was chiefly used on the AHL's New Haven Nighthawks. In 1982-83 Gladney registered 19 goals and 66 points to earn a spot on the league's first all-star team. A few weeks later he signed as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he played 13 games in 1983-84 before retiring.
