Richard Hajdu was drafted by Buffalo in 1983. He spent the next two seasons with the Victoria Cougars of the WHL, and then moved on to the Rochester Americans. He was called up by the Sabres for three games during the 1985-86 season, and for two more appearances during the 1986-87 season.
He returned to the Americans for part of the 1987-88 season, and split his time between Rochester and the Flint Spirits. From 1988-93 he played in both Europe and the U.S. and played on the Canadian National Team three times.
